The woman used cannabis as an effective remedy for joint pain, but was convicted under Article 328
Elena is 68 years old and suffers from coxarthrosis and polyarthrosis of large joints. The woman used cannabis oil to relieve pain and improve sleep quality, but one day police officers knocked on her door. Elena shared her story with Legalize Belarus.
«I am 68 years old, I have 3-4 degrees of coxarthrosis and polyarthrosis of large joints. I’m on a waiting list for a hip replacement. I grew cannabis at home in order to process mature inflorescences into a special oil, which I then took to relieve pain caused by diseases. I first tried it while visiting my daughter, who lives in Spain, and realized that it is an effective remedy that not only relieves pain, but also relaxes and helps you sleep,» says Elena.
«However, recently I asked a good friend to buy me special fertilizer. He ordered it on a website related to the cultivation of cannabis, and when he received the package in the post office, police catch him. He sayed that he bought fertilizers at my request, so they soon came to me. I already knew that his place had been searched, but I didn’t have time to throw away my cannabis. As a result, 22.48 grams of plant branches were found in my garbage container and a criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 328 and Article 329 of the Criminal Code. All investigative actions were carried out at my place, and during the medical examination they saw that I was sick and did not move well,» says the woman.
«As a result, I was sentenced to restriction of freedom without being sent to a correctional facility, and I am now forced to report to the inspection, despite the fact that every step causes physical suffering for me. I take diclofinac, analgin in injections, dicloberl and mydocalm, but these drugs have a bad effect on the liver and gastrointestinal tract, so I try to use them as little as possible, but in any case I cannot refuse. Cannabis oil really helped me,» shares Elena.
«I was also outraged by the situation that 24.48 grams of branches were equated to 24.48 grams of the psychotropic substance tetrahydrocannabinol. I tried to challenge this in court, but this is our law. It turns out that now I, a mother of three children and grandmother of eleven grandchildren, have a criminal record under an article related to the trafficking of psychoactive substances, while alcohol products, which cause much more harm than cannabis, occupy 10% of retail space in our country», says the woman.
