«I was left alone with a child and two dogs.» A woman told how her husband was detained for distributing psychoactive substances
Alina (name changed) shared with Legalize Belarus the story of her husband’s detention. They raised their daughter together, who now may not see her father for a long time.
«My husband went to pick up our daughter from pre-school in the evening. The round trip takes about 40 minutes. But after 20 minutes, I heard the door opening, and our dog started barking at someone. Coming out into the hallway, I saw unfamiliar men in civilian clothes. One of them, who was closer to me, showed a police badge. My husband was in handcuffs, and they had pulled a hat over his eyes. But they didn’t hit him. He immediately told me, «Alina, don’t be afraid. I was arrested for drugs,» the woman recounts.
«Then there was a search. Overall, the officers behaved politely, everything went calmly. My husband showed everything himself. They confiscated scales, hashish, gloves, ziplock bags. They also checked our phones. There was correspondence with the drug shop on my husband’s phone,» Alina adds.
«In reality, I was in shock because I didn’t even suspect what my husband was involved in. But I think it’s because he couldn’t find a job with decent income,» the woman says.
It was difficult for Alina to accept what was happening: «At that moment, my life completely changed: I was left alone with a six-year-old child, two dogs, and nine rubles in my wallet. I won’t even talk about the moral side. My husband found himself in such a situation for the first time, and I can confidently say that he won’t repeat such actions, but now he’s in pretrial detention and awaiting sentencing. He faces over 6 years of imprisonment.»
